The 69 Fairlane was a massively well received surprise as it would set standards that you could rarely find in the auto market of muscle cars. This model was reinforced when compared to other previous models with a stronger engine HP and it had some parts of the interior dealt with because of the fact the engineers from Ford weren’t too happy about how things were looking when they went back to the previous years’ models.
So it was that if you were a car freak or an avg. Joe and you saw a 1969 Ford Fairlane, it was hard not to stare at this car. It was simply the kind of car you looked at and instantly wanted, and became envious of people who owned one. This care just seemed to have that kind of impact on people.
Thus this year’s model was named the 1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra 428. This car featured minimal exterior ornamentation, a black grille and the only clues that could lead you to the early years of Fairlane’s legacy were the 428 badges and the snake emblems you could find on the car.
When you are talking about the specs on this car, it featured a 428 CID Cobra V8 engine which was the standard for this series. Transmission came with a 4 speed manual or for a modest $37 more you could go with the automatic. The price for the car was stacked around $3200 and it was not expensive to be honest. Even though Ford had rated its engine to be around 335 HP there were some other people estimating that the Cobra’s real output would be much higher.
The numbers that circulated back then around this subject stated that the real BHP of the engine was 400 and not 335. If you were interested in the optional Ram Air induction system you could have it as an option for the price of $133. This particular system was using a hood scoop which was now functional in order to have the air cleaner breather valve fed which would open under heavy throttle. Even though that the engines used were stacked at 335 BHP, they would still have more power when compared to the standard mill.
