This was the year when production halted and was resumed in 1978. The rallye model now also had a beautiful grill in black hue and stripes coming from the front fenders.

The 340 engine was now replaced by a brand new 360 V8 engine which was capable of giving two hundred and forty five horsepower. The 1974 Dodge Challenger was available for a limited time as production was stopped in this year. Around sixteen thousand models were manufactured in ‘74. Some of the hues this 1974 Challenger came in were golden fawn, bright red, parchment and yellow blaze.

Many muscle car enthusiasts love to customize this model and love to trick out and add that extra zing to their car. Here is the process I use to customize many of these models:

The first step involves replacing the old suspension with springs and shocks. The riding height of a Challenger is slightly on the higher side which is a plus point.

Next is the process of upgrading the brakes. You can use slotted and performance tilting brake pads. Good quality brakes ensure that balancing of your Challenger is correct.

A powerful engine is a must. For this you need to increase the motor’s horsepower which can be done by reprogramming of the electronic control unit.

Then take into account the wheels and the tires. You can fit in nice looking alloy wheels thanks to the large diameter of the rack.

For the body you can use steel inserts for the bumpers, front light and taillight setting so that your Challenger stands out completely. A fresh new steel grill will also beautify your car.

Lastly do up the interiors. Many accessories are available which look really hot. Steel door trims and luxurious mats can perk up the oomph factor.

After you do these mods, your Dodge Challenger will look incredible and every time you drive it people will definitely check out your sexy new beast.

The 74 Challenger had a strong position in the lot of pony cars present in that time. Though the 1974 Dodge Challenger was available just for a short period, it was admired by many.

Only a small number of changes were done here and there. The front bumpers were replaced by new ones mainly because of implementation of new laws. The novel bumper was strong enough to take on bigger impact without any kind of smash up. These bumpers in the 1973 Challenger had a heavy look and jutted out far away from the automobile. The rallye was not anymore a proper model but just came in an alternate package if someone wanted to improvise the basic model.

The air ducts fitted with the front fenders was something which came as a request from the previous model. The basic models were given a makeover with help of a tinted accent stripe that looked really sharp. The 1973 Dodge Challenger was made available in an array of tones ranging from bright red, dark silver, honey gold, top banana, autumn bronze, bright blue, pale green, dark gold, light blue and many more. The gold shade for the top which came in the 1971 model was brought back by the company for the 1973 Challenger.

Changes in terms of interiors were also not much. The seats were now more snug and comfortable all thanks to the alterations done. One could choose from shades dark green, white, black and blue for the interior of the 1973 Dodge Challenger. When we talk about the wheel part in this model only fourteen inch lot was made available by Dodge. Some of the alternatives available for this model also included body sill moldings, a floor console, an air conditioner, a defroster for the back window and not to forget the light package.

The engine with six cylinders and two hundred and twenty five cubic inches was discontinued from this year. The three hundred and eighteen engine was now the basic one. However one also had a choice to go in for the three hundred and forty 4 bbl. Electronic ignition was now found in all Challenger engines and also the exhaust valves were really hard, so that working with unleaded petrol was easy.

The 73 Challenger though was not much different from its previous models but still had its own charm and beauty which lured many car enthusiasts.

The company decided to get away from the Challenger deputy models and the convertible models in their new designs. The road and track model was given a new name called the ‘rallye’. This model was accompanied with the performance hood and also was furnished with air extractors, which were attached with the face fender. The optional chrome flip was also done away with. The roof alternative and the bumpers in different hues were also done away with. The chrome bumpers from the 71 series were brought back again in the 1972 Challenger.

The 1972 Dodge Challenger came with newly designed grills and tail light panel. These two features were carried on till 1974 when the production came to a stand still. The Challenger script in the 1972 Challenger was fitted over the marker light.

All Challenger models were tinted with high definition acrylic paints. Choice in terms of hues was extensive. In the list of high impact hues only two options were available namely the top banana or Y1 and the hemi orange or V2. One could see stripes with strobe effects on the rallye models. The strip ran from the fender scoop to the car doors. For the top alternatives of white, black and green were offered in this model.

When looking at the interior of this model, the bucket seats came from the previous models. One downside was that you did not have the option of ordering leather or even fabric insert. The style of steering wheel was similar for all the models launched in this year. The interiors were also available in a broad range of shades starting from a dark green, classic white, gold, bright blue and black.

The eleven inch brakes were discontinued from this year. The middle cap on the rallye model’s wheel was now bigger and had come with shiny bright plating. Some of the alternatives which were made available for the 1972 Dodge Challenger included a basic group, defroster for the rear window, an air conditioner, performance axle package, power sunroof and light package.

The 72 Challenger was a huge hit among all car lovers. More than sixteen thousand models were produced in the Challenger range and around six thousand nine hundred cars were manufactured in the rallye category.

The models r.t. /s.e., t/a and road and track convertible were discontinued in year 1971.

The 1971 Challenger was not much different in terms of body from its previous 1970 Challenger. It only had a novel grill and a rear panel. The grill in the 1971 Dodge Challenger was placed in the centre coupled with two extended narrow bezel that ran between the flashy headlights of the car. The novel rear lights of this model were divided into two different parts. The gap was filled by a striking Challenger nameplate. The feature of front fenders was taken from the previous model.

The road track series came with air ducts which were fitted both in front and rear wheel’s arch. All models came with a four bbl. The front bumper remained as the same old one but after February 1971 a new plush bumper was utilized which was further changed in the month of June due to some safety hassles. The front and back bumpers came in only four hues namely the B5 blue, V2 hemi orange, Y3 yellow and C7 plum crazy. However from the April month one could have painted bumpers only in the hue of Y3 yellow, all others hues were discontinued.

One could even go in for a broad vinyl band of color in the 1971 Challenger. It started right from the front fender and went across the body to the back panel. It looked very much similar to the t/a stripe that came in the 1970 model. The road and track models also came with this stripe at the end of which letters R/T were painted.

The interiors was made in an all together different manner. The console lever for the automatic option was replaced by a black coloured ‘T’ shape option. Challenger deputy came with interiors in all hues.

The left side wheels nuts were not included from the 1970 model and the wheels came with a polished finish.

The 71 Challenger was a great automobile. It had some added new components, which made it stand out among other cars launched in that time.

From that time onwards this power packed machine had been a super hot choice among both people who are passionate about collecting powerful cars and also those who were looking to buy an everyday traveling vehicle.

The 1970 Challenger had a posh and luxurious interior coupled up with an immense and powerful engine, which was indeed an appealing combination. It came to the market to vie with the existing Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang. Based on the Plymouth Barracuda style the 1970 Dodge Challenger had a very large wheelbase which in turn meant more interior space. It came in two stunning styles, one with a hard top and one with the great convertible option. Both the models were astounding.

The hardtop model was manufactured by Dodge as a single body mode. This feature only came with the Trans am, challenger V8 and Challenger 6 models. The convertible on the other hand was available only with the road and track series. The basic model came with a single engine with dimensions 3.7 liter six cylinder and two hundred and twenty five cubic inches. One had a choice of upgrading the engine to a 5.2 liter V8 and three hundred and eighteen cubic inches. This model was proficient in giving 230 horsepower. There were also models which had an even more powerful and robust engine with elements 6.3 liter V8 along with three hundred and eight three cubic inches and had 290 horsepower. Those who had a taste for power went in for a V8 engine.

The road and track models were really amazing in terms of performance. They had a basic engine which was the 383 CID magnum which could give up to 335 horsepower. These models had no other option but that of using a 3 speed manual transmission as they had the problem of intense fall in compression.

In comparison with its counterparts the 1970 Challenger was a much better machine. The 1970 Dodge Challenger came in an array of styles and in different lovely hues. The engine parts of this 70 challenger were easily available which was another reason for its huge popularity. But what made this machine a true star was it’s superb mind blowing drive. Which is why it is so admired even today.
