64 Impala
The 64 Impala was a great addition to Chevrolet’s car line and they managed to top things up with this new model. The Impala SS was featured on the market in the convertible option or if you wanted, you could go with the 2 door hardtop one.
Thus 1964 became a distinct year for Super Sport models which were available in the hard top and convertible forms. The interior of the Super Sport series was covered in vinyl and it featured front bucket seats. There was also a console which featured a floor gearshift, but this was only available only when you would have your car equipped with the 4 speed Powerglide.
The rear cove outline moldings were extremely sharp on this model. The engines of the Super Sport class were either a 6 CID engine or a V8 engine, but when it came to how much sales were recorded with the former, they were so few they don’t even deserve mentioning. Also with this new series there was a 7 position comfort column and also quick ratio power steering.
The new styling on this series had featured a new full width sculptured grille and also nicely shaped squarer corners. The 1964 Chevy Impala had a lot of bright work and they also featured triple taillights on each side. Talking about sales, these models did not have any problems providing good revenue for the company and they really sold in great numbers. There were 889600 cars produced and when it comes to the SS series, there were a staggering 185523 cars created.
However, this lead to some troubles when it came to picking up a proper power train. That is because they had to choose from 4 transmissions and 7 engines. You could find engines on these models which ranged from 140 horse power and going up to 425 HP. The top engines had all Delcotronic transistor ignitions.
The 1964 Impala proved once again that Chevrolet could deliver high quality cars and in great numbers. The price for this particular model was not high so many people could noy afford it, information which was easily confirmed by the high number of cars that were sold over that time. Thus the price for a Biscayne would range from $2362 to $2871, $2,465-$3,039 for the Bel air, $2,671-$3,181 for the Impala and $2,839-$3,196 for the Impala SS.
The 64 Chevy Impala has only risen in value over the years, and I recently saw one that was in mint condition and had it’s original numbers, go for well over $70,000!
