1973 Chevy Nova brought forth many news changes for the Chevy Nova. Although the car was still similar to those of the past, it was easy for buyers to see just how many changes were made. From the start, it is important to note that this car gained a two door hatchback model. Along with this, and more importantly, it also received a revised front bumper thanks to new mandates from the federal government.

When compared to the 1972 model, the wheelbase was unchanged. That being said, this car was a bit longer thanks to bigger bumpers. What was the point of the new bumpers, you may ask? The government decided that all cars needed five mile per hour front and rear bumpers. Also, the 1973 Chevy Nova was approximately 100 pounds heavier than its predecessor.

The SS option was still available in 1973, and it continued to be an upgrade that many buyers were interested in. For only $123 this package could be had to “spice up” the appearance of the Nova. It added Rally wheels and a blackout grille – both of which gave the car a more aggressive look. One of the nicest features of the SS is that Chevy allowed buyers to order it with any of the available engines, not just the V8.

In 1973, the Chevy Nova ss was extremely popular with 35,542 packages being installed and sold. This made it the best selling model in Chevy Nova history

The base engine in the 1973 Chevy Nova was a 100 horsepower V6. Three V8’s were available including: 115 horsepower, 145 horsepower, and 175 horsepower.

As previously noted, the addition of a hatchback was one of the major changes to the 1973 model lineup. The hatchback was only available on the two door model.

Upgrades to the standard lineup of equipment for the 1973 Chevy Nova were side guard door beams with sound insulation, and a flow through ventilation system. Popular options included a fold down rear seat and sunroof.

Chevrolet built 369,509 1973 Chevy Novas. The price range for this car in new condition ranged from $2,377 to $2,792 based on equipment choices and options.

The 1973 Chevy Nova was a popular car at the time, and collectors consider it a classic in many forms. Although the Nova model spanned many years, those from 1973 are coveted thanks to some of the upgrades and changes that were introduced for the first time in this vehicle.

The 1972 Chevy Nova was pretty much the same car as the previous year. Of course, Chevrolet made sure that they changed things just a bit to keep the public happy. Although you may have a hard time distinguishing the two model years, once you get up close and personal you will realize that there were some changes.

The most important thing to note is that both the SS and Rally Nova packages were carried over from 1971. These were popular options in ’71, and for this reason Chevy decided to make them available the next year as well. And good thing they did. It is these cars that collectors of today’s world are looking for – many consider them to be classics.

Halfway through the model year Chevy decided to add some more options to the Nova to spice things up a bit. On two door models a sunroof option was added; this is something that many people had been wondering about the year before. Also, the low back bucket seat design that was previously available on the coupes was swapped out for the high back design that had become so popular thanks to their inclusion in the Vega and Camaro.

After 1972 the Rally Nova option would be discontinued, until 1977. This trim level took the appearance of the 1972 Nova to the next level by adding white or black stripes, Rally Wheels, and a Rally Nova badge on the hood. Although these were only subtle changes, they gave this version of the car a different look than the base models.

The 250 V6 engine was standard in the 1972 Nova. Two V8 engines were available: a 307 cu inch and a 350 cu inch – both offered much more power than the base V6.

One thing of interest about the 1972 Chevy Nova is that it looked the same as several other cars on the road. This is because other divisions of General Motors began to rebadge the Nova under other brands. They included: Oldsmobile Omega, Buick Apollo, and Pontiac Ventura II.

Although the 1972 Chevy Nova was quite similar to the 1971, it still holds a place in car history. Many collectors consider this model a classic, especially in the Rally Nova or SS trim. There may be more popular cars from the past, but the 1972 Chevy Nova ss was a good choice then and is still drawing attention from car enthusiasts the world over.

The 1969 Chevrolet Nova came in many different trim levels, including the ever popular SS 396. Not only was this car popular when it was released in 1969, but it has held up to the test of time. When it comes to classic muscle cars, this is one that is never overlooked by those who truly know what they are talking about.

One thing that was immediately recognized about the 1969 Nova was its clean cut appearance. In other words, it did not stand out like other muscle cars of its time. Despite its unassuming styling, both inside and out, this car offered just as many features as any other car of that time period – if not more.

In 1968 Chevrolet decided to redesign the Nova. While many people were expecting big things for the company’s popular compact car, it was still “laid back” and less flashy than most of the competition. That being said, when you looked under the hood it was easy to see that the 1969 Chevy Nova was a bit different than those from the past. A chassis design shared with the Camaro meant one thing to this car: the ability to finally accommodate a big block. As you can imagine, this meant a lot of power from a car that most people never looked at in this way.

Halfway through 1969 Chevrolet made a big announcement: they were releasing a Super Sport (SS) edition of the Nova. What did this mean? On top of other features, the SS model was equipped with a 396-cid V8 engine. With this car came a 375 horsepower engine, 415 lb ft torque, power front discs, special suspension setup, and a red stripe. Along with this, there were many body upgrades that showed the SS styling including several badges, black accented grille, and an upgraded hood intake. With all of this you would expect people to realize that it was indeed a muscle car – but still this did not happen.

So, just how fast was this car? The 1969 Chevy Nova could go from 0 – 60 in 5.9 seconds. Along with this, it could cover a quarter mile 14.5 seconds at 101 miles per hour. As you can see, despite the fact that this car did not look like the rest it was every bit as fast while also offering an unforgettable driving experience.

With all this information it is easy to see that the 1969 Chevy Nova was different than the competition. But sometimes different is better. By bucking the trend Chevrolet produced a car that is now considered a classic.
